El Hierro
The island of El Hierro is the smallest, the most western and the least populated of the Canarian Archipelago. Recently declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, it was considered in the second century of our era, until the discovery of America by Columbus, as the most western end of the world, the end of the ancient world, so it was set at the Lighthouse of Orchilla the prime meridian or meridian zero, displaced in 1883 to Greenwich.
Its 278 km 2 of surface offer many options to the visitor to be surprised and spend an unforgettable vacation. The great diversity of contrasts and landscapes that occur on this small island makes many consider it a small miniature continent where you can enjoy arid lajiares and volcanic formations in the South and West, fertile lands in the Valley of El Gulf with its vineyards and pineapple and banana plantations in the northwest, dense forests of Canarian pine, fayales, heaths and laurisilvas in the central area of the island, fields and meadows on the Nisdafe plateau, fig trees and almond trees in bloom in the Pine forest, and steep, rocky and steep coasts that give way to small beaches and native pools, popularly known as puddles of water, in which to dive and enjoy direct contact with nature when the heat strikes.
A separate mention requires its first-rate archaeological sites, its nature trails, its historical hermitages, its traditional wineries, and its town, Valverde, the island's capital, where we can enjoy, among other things, its wonderful 18th century church .
The island's climate is determined by the interaction of the marine currents of the Saharan bank and the trade winds, making it smooth and uniform. The nights are usually very clear and clear, which delights both romantics and astronomy fans. For more: theoutdoorreview.com
