Camino de Sabinosa- La Dehesa

The beginning of this trail is found in the town of Sabinosa, located at the western end of the Gulf Valley. The path begins in the town square. Access to the path is easily located by going up a narrow and steep paved road next to the sports field, just in the opposite direction of the road that here goes down to the Pozo de la Salud, well known for its medicinal properties. The entrance to the path is signposted by a wooden sign (“Camino de La Dehesa”), next to an orchard cultivated between low dry stone walls.

Initially, the ascent is done without great difficulty and you can see panoramic views of the town of Sabinosa, which is the cradle of folklore from El Hierro.
As you ascend, the vegetation becomes shrubby, thanks to the increasing humidity and the forest of fayas and heather becomes more dense at 1,200 meters of the route. The mountain nettles usually invade the road, so you have to be careful with them.

At about 900 meters above sea level a water jet is located. Here the landscape lacks arboreal vegetation except for the junipers, which are thousand-year-old trees of great plasticity and of great interest to the crossbow hunting photography lovers since they have twisted and picturesque shapes.

Part of the path coincides with the traditional "Camino de la Virgen", through which the pilgrimage runs, which is held every four years in honor of the patron saint of the Herreños.

On this road, there are spectacular views of Sabinosa, the Valle del Golfo, and the Ermita.

The tour ends at approximately 700m above sea level, at the Sanctuary of the Virgen los Reyes.
