Fuerteventura
The island of Fuerteventura, with 1,658 km2 of extension, is the flattest of the Canary archipelago. It is part of an alignment of more than 200 km that begins on the islet of Alegranza, north of Lanzarote, and that extends to about 20 km south of Punta de Jandía, thus constituting the largest continental platform in the Canary Islands.
It is an island with extensive plains, practically unique in the archipelago, its central axis being an elongated plain, contrary to what happens in the rest of the islands, where the highest heights are usually found on that axis. The relief of the island of Fuerteventura corresponds to a stage of advanced maturity and although it has suffered numerous eruptions throughout its geological history, these have not been enough to compensate the erosive process and rejuvenate the terrain appreciably.
The island is divided into six municipalities: Antigua, Betancuria, La Oliva, Pájara, Puerto del Rosario, Tuineje. The capital is Puerto del Rosario (old Puerto de Cabras). The Lobos islet, with 5 km2, is incorporated into the municipality of La Oliva.
Geomorphology represents the dominant landscape factor, with the appearance of formations of high value due to their visual singularity, scientific, cultural or didactic interest. The formations of greater value correspond to areas of recent volcanism, to those representative of the erosive forms of ancient volcanic buildings, those covered by jable, the sedimentary ones of the Basal Complex and in which fossils appear, which allow geological dating.
Its main exponents are the Natural Park of the Dunes of Corralejo and Isla de Lobos, with incredible and evocative landscapes of golden sands and beautiful beaches with transparent waters of surprising blue and turquoise tones, the Montaña de Tindaya, the Malpaís de Bayuyo, an authentic extension geological of the island, and especially the alignment of cones of kindergarten, which can be visited through the trails designed for this purpose, the Malpaís de las Arenas, the Malpaís de los Arrabales and the Caldera de Jacomar area, the coast of Puerto de La Peña, and the set of raised beaches.
Fuerteventura constitutes an authentic oasis on the Atlantic. White and luminous, the Island extends its immense beaches of golden and brilliant sand next to the turquoise blue of transparent waters that resemble paradise. It is possible to enjoy the sun and the sea in dream places, and lose yourself and forget that time passes.
Known as the Quiet Island, Fuerteventura, the second largest in the Archipelago, offers very unique landscapes, such as the mythical Tindaya Mountain, to whom the aborigines attributed magical properties and which today preserves important remains of those settlers; or its rolling plains, dotted with centuries-old gofio mills, the toasted cereal flour that is still an essential ingredient in exquisite island dishes these days.
Small coastal towns full of flavor and tradition show their most typical architecture along with churches, hermitages, castles and a network of museums that accompany the visitor on an interesting walk through the history of this island full of treasures and a lover of crafts: openwork, basketry, wood, clay.
In the arid landscape of Fuerteventura, where the rain is a gift that heaven gives very occasionally, every crop is a miracle. In essence, Fuerteventura tastes salt and grazing, fish and goat, seafood and livestock.
Gastronomy is born from the ingenuity of generations of majors, from those who already inhabited the island, and from those who have been arriving, at the limited possibilities of this land. Hence an extremely simple but tasty recipe book was born. A kitchen is made with two main sources; the goat and the fish. You can buy the rolex replica for special occasions.
But if there is a product whose delicacy has crossed its borders, reaching international recognition, it is cheese. Its quality is guaranteed by the Denomination of Origin since 1996.
In Fuerteventura, you not only find beaches, but you can also enjoy a wide cultural offer through its network of museums, and religious architecture, buy Majorera crafts or participate in its popular festivals where you will learn about traditional music and dances.
The Island of Fuerteventura, with 13 protected natural spaces, enhances its exoticism with palm trees and tarajales and the appreciated aloe vera, with which handmade cosmetic products of innumerable benefits for the skin are made.
You will be able to walk along paths between exotic volcanic cones, immerse yourself on seabed of indescribable beauty or measure yourself against the wind and waves practicing windsurfing, a sport that finds here the best conditions to celebrate the World Championship each year.
